ここを狩猟の中心に活動しているのが狩猟歴40年の叉鬼の遠山だ。
「叉鬼」とは、諸説あるが執念深く獲物を追うあるいはクマさえ捕獲することから「鬼」の「また」強い者ということから叉鬼であるとする説などがある。遠山は、毎日山に入り、時には何十㎞と歩き回り足跡から獲物を探し仕留める執念と、クマさえも恐れず自然に感謝を忘れない姿は「叉鬼」という表現が相応しいだろう。

Matagi Toyama, who has 40 years of hunting history, is active here as the center of hunting. There are various theories about "Matagi", but there is a theory that it is a "Mataogi" because it is a "demon" who is "again" strong because it chases prey or even captures bears. Toyama goes into the mountains every day, sometimes walking around for tens of kilometers to find and kill his prey, and the appearance of not being afraid of even bears and not forgetting to thank nature is appropriate for the expression "Matagi".

遠山は狩猟では珍しいとされる単独で狩猟をしている。正確にいうと愛犬のシェパード「サン」と狩猟を行う。定説ではシェパードは狩猟に向いていないとされていた。しかし、遠山はシェパードを狩猟犬に育て上げた。サンは、遠山にとっていなくてはならない存在だ。

Toyama hunts alone, which is rare in hunting. To be precise, he hunts with his dog, the shepherd "Sun". According to the established theory, shepherds are not suitable for hunting. However, Toyama raised the shepherd into a hunting dog. Sun is an indispensable existence for Toyama.

狩猟の方法は、サンが獲物を追い出し、猟銃で仕留める方法と、罠で捕獲する罠猟。猟銃の狙いの精度も高く、獲物が苦しまない頭を狙い、無駄な殺傷は行わなず、良質な肉をいただく。罠猟では獲物が苦しまないように仕留める。これは「自然の恵みをいただくこと」の鉄則だ。
